BFP-CAR JOINS CLIMATE CHANGE CONFERENCE

The Bureau of Fire Protection-CAR attended the Conference on Knowing the Hazards and Communicating Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Measures at Forest View Leisure Residences, Subic Bay Freeport Zone on August 13-14, 2014 with the theme “Nagbabago na ang Panahon, Panahon na para Magbago.”
Invited to officially open the conference is the Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Sonny Coloma. The Chairman and Administrator of Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority Roberto Garcia was also invited to deliver a warm welcome to the guests and participants.
Present in the conference were speakers from various agencies to include the Commissioner on Climate Change Commission Nadarev Saῆo who discussed Climate Change 101, Understanding Climate Change, Science and Impacts; the Senior Science Research Specialist Mariane Eve Ordonez of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau, DENR who shared her knowledge and expertise in Geohazard Mapping; the Consultant of Department of Public Order and Safety Disaster Control Division, QC PSSUPT JESSE STO DOMINGO; the Chief Medical Professional Staff and Health Emergency Service Coordinator of Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center Dr. Manuel Quirino; the President of PH Network of Environmental Journalist, Inc. Imelda Abano; the Director of Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology Renato Solidum of the Department of Science and Technology; the CEO of Research and Technology Lab Allan Capulong and finally the DirectorGeneral of Philippine Information Agency Jose Mari Oquinena.
The participants took an eco-walk towards the El Kabayo Falls and planted trees while on their way. This highlighted the activity because it opened the minds of the participants of the realization of the importance of protecting the environment. Thus, at the end of the activity they took their Forest Friend’s Pledge to protect and save Mother Earth.

Fire Bureau Reassigns 13 Officials

MANILA, Philippines — Before he passed away, the late Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse M. Robredo has implemented a revamp on the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), rotating 13 officials from the bureau. Senior Supt. Norman V. Pinion, former Regional Director of Region 4B, has been reassigned as Deputy Director of Directorate for Plans and Standard Development in the National Headquarters, while Senior Supt. Lorenzo De Guia takes his post in Region 4B.
Meanwhile, Senior Supt. Sergio M. Soriano Jr., former Regional Director of Region 2 switched places with Senior Supt. Samuel M. Jamias, who is former Regional Director for the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
Senior Supt. Anderson A. Comar, who was the Chief Fire Marshal of the Cebu City Fire Station has been moved as Assistant Regional Director for Operations in the National Capital Region (NCR). Senior Supt. Jose S. Embang Jr., on the other hand, who used to be Regional Chief Directorial Staff and Chief of the Operations Division in the NCR has been assigned as District Fire Marshal of Fire District III.
Supt. Eddie Silvano C. Cuartel, former Assistant Regional Director of Region 4B is now Regional Chief Directorial Staff of NCR, while Supt. Leonardo C. Gonzales is concurrent Assistant Regional Director for Region 4B.

BFP-CAR asks public vigilance to avert fires

BAGUIO CITY, Mar. 7. (PIA) -- "Public vigilance and precaution remain the best means for fire prevention”. Thus reiterated officials of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), which is the lead agency in the celebration of Fire Prevention Month this March.
With this year’s theme, “Makiisa, Makiaalam, at Makipagtulungan Upang Sunog ay Maiwasan”, BFP Cordillera regional director Fire Senior Superintendent Samuel M. Jamias is calling on all citizens, schools, companies, and communities to be alert, vigilant, and cooperative to avert fires.
